The Amiga 2000 is a personnel computer from the Amiga row. It represents the Highend counterpart to likewise to 1987 the Amiga 500 appeared.

The Amiga 2000 was designed as Desktop, contrary to the Amiga 500. In the larger housing like that place for extensions was over the Zorrobus, which was used for the first time here. This made possible (comparably with that five years later spezifierten PCI standard) Plug and Play, while IBM PCs were equipped with ISA Slots. The Amiga 2000 should be professionally used, contrary to the parallel model Amiga 500, which did not succeed however in sufficient measure.

The first model, the Amiga 2000A, had been sketched in Germany in the Braunschweiger development department. It was equipped with a OCS Chipsatz with the Agnus chip of the Amiga 1000, which can be made possible maximally 512 KB chip RAM and not extended. In 1988 the published Amiga 2000B from the USA the Fat Agnus chip was used and to this partial by the ECS Chipsatz with super Big Agnus (also in the Amiga 3000 in the employment) was replaced, which was then blocked in 1990 2000C appeared exclusive, in order to make possible 2 MT chip RAM. The first versions of Fat Agnus knew maximally 512 KB chip RAM, which administer later 1 MT chip RAM. Old Fat Agnus with 512 KB could be replaced with various changes on the Main board by the 1-MB-Version.

The moreover one the Amiga has 2000, as also the Amiga 500, opposite which 1000 the Kickstart in the ROM is appropriate for Amiga, does not have i.e., it only by disk is loaded, if one starts the computer.

This system developed Commodore further in the following computers Amiga 3000 and 4000.

Technical equipment

  • CCU: Motorola 68000 7.14 MHz (NTSC) and/or 7.09 MHz (PAL), alternatively one could replace the 68000 by the 68010.
  • Chip set: OCS (original chip set), could be replaced however by ECS chip set (only starting from 2000B)
  • RAM: 1 MT (megabyte), whereby the Amiga 2000A 512 KByte on the motherboard and 512 KByte on a memory expansion in the CCU Slot had, all following revisions had 1 MByte on the motherboard.
  • ROM: To 512 KB Kickstart 1.2/1.3 later off end to 1989 Kickstart 2.0
  • internally 5 Zorro II - Slots (16 bits, autoconfig), 2 in row with the 16-Bit-ISA-Slots for the famous bridge maps (PC emulators)
  • internally 2 16-Bit-ISA-Slots (2 in row with Zorro II slots, S. o.)
  • internally 2 8-Bit-ISA-Slots
  • internally Extensionslot (CCU Slot) - for CCU maps with 68020, 68030 - or 68040-Prozessoren (fastest map: 68060er with 50 MHz (Blizzard 2060))
  • 1 parallel haven (SSP)
  • 1 RS232-Port
  • 1 video Slot
  • ever 1 audio exit of left ones/right clay/tone channel
  • 1 video mono Out (not Amiga 2000A)
  • 2 internal of diskette haven (3.5 a tariff drive assembly with 880 KB standard in accordance with thereby)
  • 1 external diskette haven (the Amiga, later gave it could administer 4 floppy disk drives also 1,76-MB-Modelle)

Models and variants

Amiga 1500

The Amiga 1500 is a variant of the Amiga 2000 with additional (altogether two) internal floppy disk drives.

It was sold mainly by Commodore England.

Amiga 2500

The Amiga 2500 was published 1989 and was on the whole identically constructed with the Amiga 2000. It had a few extension cards and with a 68020-Prozessor with 14 MHz and in later consequence with a 68030-Prozessor was delivered.
