The Amiga 500 is the usually-sold Amiga computer of Commodore. He was presented 1987 on the CeBit with the Amiga 2000 and possessed similar performance data as these. Target group for the computer were above all private users with smaller purse. Debited to the expandableness without a Desktop and/or a one did and instead a Design selected, which resembled that of the Commodore 128. The Amiga 500 was - more still than the Amiga 2000 - at its time particularly as play computer likes, since picture and clay/tone quality were clearly superior to the then usual PC.

The Amiga 500 possessed a Motorola 68000-CPU clocked with 7,16 megahertz and 512 KByte main memories. This could be extended by means of a extension Slots on 1 or 1,5 MByte. In the years 1987 and 1988 the Amiga 500 with the Amiga operating system AmigaOS 1,2 (Kickstart) was delivered, replaced starting from 1988 this by the substantially more stable version 1.3.

Starting from 1991 there were 500 pluses a new variant of the Amiga 500 with the Amiga. It was equipped with twice as much main memory (1 MByte) and with the new Enhanced chip set (ECS) instead of the original chip set (OCS), which could head for VGA monitors for the first time. The Amiga 500 pluses was delivered from the beginning with Kickstart version 2.04. This operating system was technically a large step forward, had however the disadvantage that many often programmed under evasion of the operating system for achievement optimization directly on the hardware of the Amiga 500 plays any longer did not function. Very soon therefore hardware extensions came on the market, which permitted it to change between Kickstart 1,3 and 2,0. The Amiga 500 pluses found its continuation in the Amiga 600.

As interesting intermediate play the Amiga became of 500 even the Urahn all Case Moddings. He was driven out by Commodore inzwei poppigen Designs, for which those was name-giver-won at that time well-known television host Stefanie as. See also Web left below.
