The Amiga 600 is in the year 1992 of Commodore of imported computers. Its performance data corresponded to a large extent to that of the Amiga 500 pluses, it like these with the new Enhanced chip set of the Amiga 3000 were equipped, possessed with 1 MT RAM twice as much main memory like the original variant of the Amiga 500, an PCMCIA interface and a ATA CONTROLLER for 2.5 " - a non removable disk. Like also the Amiga 500 he was built not in a Tower, but in a Commodore Design.
As operating system AmigaOS 2,0 was provided, consisting of Workbench 2,0 and the Kickstart ROM with the designation 2,05, of which different versions existed (version numbers 37,299, 37,300, and 37,350). The first revisions of the Amiga 600 (to motherboard Rev. 1.3) was delivered still with the Kickstart version 37.299, which did not strange-prove ATA and a PCMCIA support had. One could reload the necessary drivers of disk, but a direct boats of media, which could become attached at these penalties, was not possible. Only later models of the Amiga 600 and in particular the model Amiga 600HD (with inserted non removable disk in the Bundle) were equipped with Kickstart versions starting from 37.300, which could already merge both the PCMCIA interface and the internal ATA CONTROLLER with boats into the operating system. The version 37.300 through various of nose was limited to the use from non removable disks to 40 MT (systems with more than 40 MT were unstable), while version 37.350 got along with plates up to 4 GB. Optionally one could later acquire the Workbench 2,1, than innovations the localization of the operating system into different languages as well as "CROSS DOS" - driver for with the FAT format (MS-DOS) provided disks/non removable disks along-brought. The Workbench 2,1 ran on all Kickstart |ROMs the 2.0x-Familie, a Kickstart with the designation 2,1 never gave it.
The computer became one the largest Flopps of Amiga history. Reasons for it were among other things performance data no longer up-to-date, the made too expensive price and the absence of the number block on the keyboard. In view of the restrictions in relation to the predecessor model he should be called originally A300s, however in the last moment in A600 was renamed and woke thereby wrong hopes of a general increase in output. Many observers mean that this small decision became one of the crucial coffin nails for the company Commodore. In addition the Amiga 600 already suffered like its direct predecessor Amiga 500 pluses from the problem that some older popular plays did not get along with Kickstart versions starting from 2.0. This was to that extent bitterly, there the equipment thereby for the large part of the focused target group - which player municipality - became unattractive. A further deficiency was the unsatisfactory (and never planned by Commodore) expandableness of the Amiga 600. Contrary to the Amiga 500 all ICs with exception of Kickstart Rome was not firmly in SMD technology soldered and no more gesockelt, so that many important Amiga-500 (pluses) - extensions did not fit.
