With the architecture it concerns around a computer at the basis resources being on hardware level, whatever over the operating system, possibly indirectly over a network, can be accessed, as well as the fundamental characteristic and the organisational structure of these resources.
With real time systems the application programs can be responsible for the access to the hardware also; to center of the 1990er (Windows 95) was still generally usual such direct accesses also in the personal computer and home computer range.
Within the range of the computers for private users are today only two architectures in considerable numbers of items on the market: To the 1981 sketched IBM-PC and on the other hand the Apple Macintosh, which came in its original version 1984 into the trade. Newer models extended and in many details (partly fundamental) changed these architectures. With the Macintosh thereby meanwhile even twice the CCU family was changed.
Further architectures from the server range e.g. are. SPARC and IA64. Within the range of the Handhelds (e.g. Palm) are likewise still some other architectures. Besides there were still various home computer architectures to center of the 1990er.
One considers the differences between the described architecture and software architecture.
