The Because It's Time network (Bitnet) was a cooperative computer network work. It connected and-public research establishments in the USA for computer of scientific institutions. The first connection wurde1981 between the town center University OF New York (CUNY) and the Yale Universityhergestellt.

Bitnet used a uniform communication procedure, which also of computer networks was inserted such as EARN into Europe and NetNorth into Canada. Thus a world-wide homogenens computer network developed. On its high point around 1991 communicated to the 3500 computers in over 1000 organ sowing ions with one another.

The emphasis of the services was first with communication between the computers and between humans and computer.
