Capablanca random Chess ((carriage return character)) is a chess variant on a 10x8 the board is played. To Capablancas extended figure set with chancellor (also marshal or Zentaur) and archbishop (also cardinal, Janus or ore gel) will become a Startstellung from 48000 possibilities drawn lots, such with uncovered farmers rejected. Castlings remain unchanged as with the Chess960 elements of the play. This variant won 2005 a competition for the Design of a 10er-Schachs.

Intention

Conventional chess programs mutate increasingly to looking up systems. Enormous opening libraries, in an educated manner from across centuries the gained knowledge of millions active chess player, lead in connection with by machine won final game knowledge across few stone he positions in the increasing measure to the reproduction of courses instead of to their calculations. In order to create a new possibility of verifying the quality of real course computations developed therefore the new, downward compatible variant Capablanca random Chess with the goals:

  • Supply of a promising setting of tasks for chess programmers
  • Use of the full 10x8 board geometry
  • Application with chancellor (Z = Turm+Springer) and archbishop (E = extended figure set
  • Adjustment of the rules to those of the Chess960
  • Avoidance of conflicts regarding existing patents (and/or US utility models) (see Gothic Chess)

The author made besides the suggestion to rename the two additional figures (under keeping of their established contractions) in Z = Zentaur (a down behuftes hermaphrodite nature) and E = ore gel (a militaryful, the Paradies guarding sword carrier). This led to a clearer symbolism and would e.g. avoid mistakes of runner with archbishop or Springer with chancellor.

Criteria of the initial positions

  • Runners are to be platzieren on multi colour fields, this apply accordingly to lady and archbishop, since these contain the pace of a runner in itself also (similarly Chess960)
  • the king must always be between the two towers (as in traditional chess and Chess960)
  • only such positions are permissible, in those all farmers are covered (as in traditional chess)
  • Positions with less than three differences to the Gothic Chess are omitted (to conflict avoidance)
  • Positions with neighbouring runners are to avoid (April 2006 supplements)

Drawing procedure

Due to the enormous number of possibilities program-supported procedures are recommended much. The following proceeding (which theoretically to a cube to apply could) is recommended:

  1. it determines whether lady or archbishop is first set (2x)
  2. the platziere selected figure on a bright field (5x)
  3. the platziere other figure on a dark field (5x)
  4. intend a bright field for the first runner (4x)
  5. intend a dark field for the second runner (4x)
  6. select a free field for the chancellor (6x)
  7. draws a place for first Springer out (5x)
  8. draws a place for second Springer from (4x) /2
  9. set the king into the middle of the three still free fields
  10. the platziere two towers on the remaining two free fields
  11. complete now the row before it with 10 farmers
  12. if one of the last three criteria for the starting list is not fulfilled, repeat the drawing.

There are actually 12118 different permissible initial positions, which should be sufficient for the next centuries, in order to be able to accomplish varied portions.

Castling treatment

  1. As in conventional chess castlings are permissible only if neither the tower involved nor the king pulled, if neither a third figure is struck jumped over nor, and the king is not threatened by chess anywhere on the way from its output to its target field (both fields included).
  2. The C-castling, O-O-O: the king is platziert two fields far away from the edge of the left side from white, the tower on the next internal field.
  3. The i-castling, O-O: the king is platziert a field far away from the edge of the right page from white, the tower on the next internal field.
  4. Similar to the Chess960 with diagrams mark points are used, in order to document still existing castling powers (see illustration).

Extended FEN coding

With the Capablanca random Chess (to the representation of positions) the X-FEN is used.

Computer chess realizations

With SMIRF Capablanca random Chess can be played.
