The 4000er-Serie is the successor series of the PET 2001 and/or the CBM 3000-Serie.
The computer had the basic version 4,0, which was extended contrary to its predecessor by some diskette instructions.
There was 4064, a THIN and FAT version from each model, except that. The difference consisted of the fact that the THIN version was not expandable and only had integrated 9 " - instead of 12 " - a monitor. The FAT version could be extended by some (over 20 Jumper plus video RAM enlargement) on 80 indications and became thereby practically a 8000er.
Differently expressed: The THIN version was identical in terms of hardware to the previous version 3000er, had however already the new basic; the FAT version had already the plate of the later 8000er, whose basic and their monitor became, the latter however with 40 indications claimant.

The 4064 as school version of the C64 and also various software differences, was meant, therefore also sometimes as C4064 designation, and its plate and basic, however to expenditure for mono chrome had changed over which made it incompatible both the C64 and the other 4000ern. It was a failure.
