With the 8000er-Serie acts it around a computer of the 4000er-Serie (FAT version), but with a larger monitor part with 80 indications. Suitably there was a 5-1/4-Zoll-Diskettenlaufwerk model CBM 8050 with 500 KB capacity (late CBM 8250 with 1 MT capacity) and a bi-directional 132-Zeichen-Drucker with 160 cps. At software among other things the data base program Ozz and the spread-sheet analysis ViciCalc were available.

All models in the overview:

  • CBM 8016 - 16 KByte, 80 indications
  • CBM 8032 (32B) - 32 KByte, 80 indications
  • CBM 8032 (32B) SK - 32 KByte, 80 indications, ergonomic housing, SK = separate key board
  • CBM 8064 (SK) - 64 KByte, 80 indications
  • CBM 8096 - 96 KByte, 80 indications, like 8032 (SK), plus ram extended card 64 KB
  • CBM 8296 - 128 KByte, 80 indications, ergonomic housing, new plate
  • MMF 9000 = 8032 with 6809-CPU-Board and own 64 KB RAM

The 8032 in three different versions one manufactured: In the standard design, into which one could build 32B-Version, which had a larger housing, to which a drive assembly, and which ergonomic SK-version, which had a tiltable monitor and a removable keyboard. Of 8064 there also a SK-version were.

Starting from the 8096er the operating system LOS-96 was additionally provided, so that one can address the entire memory. With 8296, which was a late however direct successor, a D-C version was produced, which had inserted two Slim LINE drive assemblies (model CBM 8250LP), which could store up to a MT.

The name MMF of the model MMF 9000 stood for "“Micro Mainframe"”! The computer came with compilers for Pascal and further more progressive languages, was however extremely slow and no success.

For this computer series there was a variety at peripheral devices, sees also Commodore

  • external floppy drive assemblies CBM 8050 (2 X.500 KB), CBM 8250 (2 x 1 MT), SFD 1001 (1 x 1 MT), also the older drive assemblies of the 4000er and 3000er-Serie were usable; a 8-Zoll-Doppellaufwerk gave it apparent only as internal prototypes
  • Datasette further connectablly
  • Printer in needle technology (CBM 8024, MPP 1361) and print wheel technology (CBM 8026, CBM 8027, CBM 8028, CBM 8229), up to CBM 8028/8229 all as oem bought to go with of other manufacturers
  • Single point diagram plate to the installation into the 8000er
  • Plotter (of Watanabe as oem)
  • MBS, multiple user system for common using by peripheral devices from up to 8 computers

Due to its popularity the 8000er-Serie to center of the 80's-years was produced and is partially today still used in some companies. Before the IBM-PC dominated the market, Commodore with these devices was in Germany and probably unite countries of more market leaders with commercial applications of offices and owing to the IEEE-488-Busses also in manufacturing automations and in universities, there both to the Numbercrunching and to the recording of measurement and text processing. It went thereby into Germany into the early 1980er year around numbers of items already clearly over 100.000.

The motherboard of the 8000er (up to 8096) seized dynamic RAM up to 32 KB as well as a video part, which for the first time with its own video chip 6545 (identically to 6845, how it was used also in the IBM CGA map and also still in today's diagram chips as partial functionality is contained) was implemented. By Jumper that could be umkonfiguriert video RAM between 40 and 80 indications width, so that this plate could be used also in the FAT versions of the 4000er-Serie. Otherwise the motherboard was still to a large extent identical to that the 3000er. With 8296 there were a completely new motherboard, on which as standard equipment 128 KB RAM were blocked as well as a part of functionality in developed Custom chips was summarized.

In same basic architecture this computer row with the models CBM 500, CBM 600 and CBM 700 should be resumed, sees there.
