ChessV (abbreviation for chess variants) is an open SOURCE chess program for playing very many chess variants. Over the quite unknown detour "“Capablanca Birds Chess"” one can play thereby also Gothic Chess.

Chess variants

The current version 0.81 controls the up to now following chess variants:

• 2 variants on 6x6 fields
• 12 variants on 8x8 fields
• 5 main variants on 10x8 fields and further subspecies
• 6 variants on 10x10 fields
• 4 variants of forerunners classical chess
• Cylinder chess on 8x8 fields

Further adjustments are possible.

Play strength

With the computers Gothic Chess world championship 2004, which represents a very large challenge for programmers, occupied the program a very strong third place.
