The term collision domain is named in a computer network a range, within which collisions can occur. They develop, if two stations try at the same time to send something on a only one physical medium (segment). The pulsed voltages are mixed in the cable and the signals are thus destroyed.
A 10BaseT-Ethernet consists on use of a stroke of a long leader, to whom all stations are attached. All PCs are in a collision domain. If at the same time at least two PCs want to send somewhat, a collision develops.

Such a net can be divided e.g. with a Bridge into different segments and thus into collision domains.
x---PC1------PC2------[Bridge] `------PC3------PC4--x
PC1 and PC2 as well as PC3 and PC4 and the respective side of the Bridge are in each case in their own collision domain. That is, that PC1 with PC2 and PC3 with PC4 can communicate at the same time. Only within a segment it can come still to collisions: If PC1 wants to send something to PC3, the package in the Bridge buffered first is analyzed and. It sends it to it on the lower segment. If in this moment somewhat send PC3 or PC4, a collision develops in the lower segment.
The next step consists therefore of hanging each PC to its own haven of the Bridge. One usually speaks with a Bridge with more than two connections of a SWITCH. If all devices involved are no more collisions arise:
PC1 | PC4---[SWITCHes]---PC2 | PC3
Extended explanation: A collision domain is a network segment in a CSMA/CD network. All stations on the Layer the 1 (Physical Layer, are connected, are in the same collision domain. Repeater and stroke do not separate collision domain.
Bridges separate collision domain, since they work on the Layer 2. In a geswitchten network the collision domain consists only of two stations, the Client and the SWITCH haven.
There are two possibilities this problem to treat:
