The CPC464 was of home computers with integrated cartridge drive assembly, manufactured by Amstrad. The selling in Germany took place via the enterprise cutter,
The CPC464 was equipped with a Z80 processor as well as 64 kilobyte main memory. It belonged to the few home computers, which were delivered ex factory with a monitor. This was also necessary, since the CPC had no power pack, but the current supply over the monitor referred.
At monitors there were two models. One green monochromen monitor GT 65), as well as a color monitor (CTM 640). With the successors CPC664 and CPC6128 supplied the monitor also with these models integrated 3 " (not 3.5 ") floppy disk drive with river.
By means of a modulator or a SCART cable with specially power pack a television could be attached.
For the screen resolution three different modes stood to the selection:
The cutter did not know a genuine text mode, the text directly into the bit-map was registered. This slowed down the program execution something, made however a mixing of text and diagram many simpler than on other home computers.
The inserted Locomotive BASIC in the version 1.0 was superior a powerful dialect of this language and the BASIC dialects of other home computers of this epoch.
Over the expansion haven could be attached for example memory expansion maps by Vortex, multi-function plates by Philosoft, serial interfaces as well as a 3-Zoll floppy disk drive (DDI-1 /FD-1). Beside the expansion haven were present a 7-Bit (not the usual 8-bits) Centronics interface for a printer, a Joystick connection and Stereo audio exits.
The brick-large external floppy disk drive was supplied with a version of the CP/M 2,2 of operating system. This could be started alternatively to the inserted BASIC and made it possible to fall back to the large number of free and commercial CP/M programs. Thus straight in connection with the monochromen monitor, a serious business computer from the home computer, became even if CP/M 2,2 were already at present the CPC464 an easily angestaubtes operating system.
In Germany the refugee CPC differed easily from the Amstrad original. In original quite multicolored keyboard, with which some keys were held in green, red, and blue, was substantially more dezenter with the cutter version (grey and black keys). A solder joint on the plate ensured for the fact that the computer announced itself with cutter and not with Amstrad when starting. The housing was, shielded contrary to the original, inside with metal. Thus the cutter version was clearly heavier than the original.
In Germany the CPC464 was a large competitor of the Commodore C64.
