When one designates CROSS cables or Crossoverkabel in the computer net technology (LAN technology) a achtadriges Twisted Pair cable, which possesses a RJ45-Stecker on each side, whereby however in a plug certain cable cores are exchanged. (English ton of CROSSes: cross.) it necessarily around e.g. two computers directly to interconnect.

With the Patchkabel (for the setting up a larger net) the sequence of the colors applies white/orange, orange, white/green, blue, white/blue, green, white/brown and brown, and these are assigned to the number sequence 1..8.

With the CROSS cable the two pairs are crossed against each other however only in a plug dependent on the two LAN signals which can be carried via it.

Whether Patch or CROSS variant: a white and a colored vein in the plug always alternate.

Instead of a special Crossover cable can be converted also a Patchkabel with an Crossover adapter into a Crossover cable.

The simplest application possibility for a CROSS cable is to interconnect two computers with network maps without having to use necessarily a stroke or a SWITCH. The two so connected computers form together an adequate net in the all-smallest framework. A GBit Ethernet Netzwerkkarte makes the employment of a CROSS cable redundant: to a 10/100 or a GBit SWITCH one can connect by Patchkabel or CROSS cables. It takes place Autodetect. The Windows driver Autodetect, the PXE boat code does not support some network maps however. With such a network map only the correct cable allocation is successful.

Variants

The CROSS cable gives it in two variants:

10/100BASE-T Ethernet here must be crossed not all veins, since in this standard not all must for transmission used werden.100BASE-T4/1000BASE-T Ethernet all veins are crossed here, since all are used for transmission.
The relationship is called 2-1-4-3, because each pair of the veins which can be crossed forms a multiple of the number of 18. That is, 36-18-72-54 connected with: 12-34-56-78 in the exact order, in order to build from it a CROSS cable. This has however no logical or even intended sense; it concerns here only a kind donkey bridge.
From the principle there are two Vierer, which act independently in this cable. For normal LAN the veins 1-2-3-6 are used, and to crossing 1-2 is exchanged with 3-6. 4-5 and 7-8 does not form an exception with the Gigabit CROSS cable, and is just as against each other exchanged.
