The mini-computer D4a was a type of computer from the GDR.
It, like its predecessors D1, D2 and D3, to DO Dresden under the direction of Professor Dr. Lehmann developed and manufactured.
The D4 was based completely on transistors. It had approx. 200 pieces, with which it could implement 2000 operations/second. Its drum storage had 4096 memory cells with 33 bits each. As input devices the D4a ordered over integrated keyboard and punched-tape reader, to the expenditure served a Streifendrucker. In the execution of construction as D4a the computer of one was the first Auftischcomputer Europe.
Starting from 1966 about 3000 pieces of the D4/D4a by the VEB office machine works Zella Mehlis in series were manufactured.
