DECnet is a homogeneous local network, that the company Digital Equipment corporation (short "“DEC"”), in the year 1975 introduced, in order to interlace its minicomputers. It consists of a set of network minutes, which are called in their whole digitally network Architecture (DNA). DECnet used on layer 2 (OSI model) the DDCMP (digital DATA Communications Message Protocol), which functionally HDLC very similar is, however in formats and expirations from it differs. For layer to 3 and 4 there are the recapitulatory NSP (network service Protocol), which also functions to the up and dismantling of connections contains, to the Routing, to river control and for elimination of errors. The three lower DECnet layers are called in summary transport subsystem. Whereupon a dialogue layer with user-oriented services sits as for example file transfer. DECnet was made X.25 compatible Ethernet, and IBM SNA, so that thereby also the DEC computers with computers of other manufacturers can be interlaced.
