The Enhanced Interior gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) is Routing minutes of Cisco. It is hybrid a Balanced minutes, which combine the algorithms Distance Vector and left State. EIGRP supports the Layer of 3 - minutes (OSI model) IP, IPX and Appletalk. Rout, which works with minutes EIGRP, administered for each Layer 3 minutes a separate Routing table, a neighbourhood table and a topology table. Contrary to IGRP also classless Interdomain Routing becomes (CIDR) as well as Subnetmasken with variable length (VLSM) supports.

With EIGRP the valuation criteria (Metrik) of the different routes are based on the characteristics of the IGRP likewise developed by Cisco. However by use of left State characteristics a very fast convergence is made possible on change of the net. The actualizations of the routing tables are based on the Diffusing update Algorithm (DUAL).
