The Gigabit Wissenschaftsnetz (G-WiN) is a high speed net for science and research. Claimant by the DFN association, it replaced the slower broadband science net in the year 2000.

The G-WiN consists of 27 core nodes. These are connected with 55 connections of 2.5 or 10 GBit/s each. Over these core nodes 550 locations of universities or scientific mechanisms are tied up. (All conditions: 09/2005)

The G-WiN was switched off at the beginning of of 2006 and replaced by the new science net X-WiN.
