GNU Chess was portiert one of the oldest chess programs for UNIX and on many other platforms. Also GNU Chess was one of the first parts of the GNU project, weches 1984 began. The first version of GNU Chess was written by Stuart Cracraft. All further to version 5 of John Stanback.Version 5 (1998-1999) is a complete new development of Chua Kong Sian.

GNU Chess was published free software and under the GNU general Public License. It is used with Xboard.
