The GPE (GPE Palmtop Environment) is a free software GUI environment for PDAs, which run under the GNU/Linux operating system.

GPE uses the X Window system and the GIMP Toolkit. Compaq iPAQ and Sharp Zaurus are under the momentarily supported devices.

GPE is not an individual piece of software separates a complete environment of components, which it makes possible to use a GNU/Linux PDA for tasks of standard such as personnel information management (PIM). In addition GPE developers makes the necessary infrastructure available. Apart from the supply of system libraries GPE specifies also standards for the interaction of programs like e.g. SQL, XML and other data structures.
