When designated host (English landlord, host) in the information technology a computer in a network, on which one or more servers are operated. From this connection host colloquially frequently servers are called.

Hardware

While in the past computers with above average storage location and fast processors were used, the hardware is today used host often on the level of average personal computers. However, still, no borders are upward set.

Host run usually permanently. Therefore prefers components assigned, which are appropriate for continuous operation, like e.g. SCSI in place of IDE non removable disks. During higher requirements at achievement and reliability systems with several processors, larger main memory, higher storage capacity, RAID systems, redundant power packs and USVs are used.
