Host terminal system is a term from the electronic data processing.
Before the Client server system could become generally accepted, the host terminal relationship was the controlling work principle in the data processing. An expensive and efficient central computer (host, Mainframe) served a number of terminals. These terminals were pure in/output devices without own memory or computer capacity. Storage capacity and computing time in the time sharing /Slicing procedure were made available by the central computer.
