Hewlett-Packard 3000 series is a family of minicomputers the 1973 after a difficult development phase on the market came. The HP3000 should become the first minicomputer with a complete time-sharing operating system.
The first computers were based on a 16-Bit CISC processor. Starting from 1988 Pa-RISC-architecture with 32-Bit addressing was introduced. The hardware is identically to that the HP 9000 HP-UX family.
The operating system of the HP3000 is called mdu to indicate with introduction of the PA-RISC architecture mdu XL and late MPE/iX around interoperability with Unix. Mdu contains the data base system turbo-image, the actual success prescription of the HP3000.
2003 adjusted HP the sales of the HP3000. Maintenance is continued up to the year end 2006.
