Hewlett-Packard 9100A was the first personnel computer.

The term was used for the first time in an advert for this PC in the literature. , When access to arithmetic performance only indirectly, by delivery of punch cards at operators in a computing centre was possible, this equipment (9100A PUTs placed at a time answers A just touch away! , Display text) the departure into a new age, one age in which Apple II, TRS-80, PET and IBM PC became only conceivable.

Steve job (founder of Apple computers) said in April 1995 in an interview with Daniel Morrow: I saw my roofridge desktop computer RK Hewlett-Packard which which called the 9100A. It which the roofridge desktop into the world.

The HP-9100A had:

  • Permanent magnet core memory for up to 196 program lines and 6 variables (a.f)
  • 3 level stack
  • UPN (reverse Polish notation) as computing notation
  • Complex, trigonometric and hyperbolic functions
  • Computing range: 10-98 to 1099
  • Screen for the representation of 3 lines (x, Y and Z-register)
  • Integrated card random access memory for the recording of programs
  • Control structures (bypasses, flag, GOTO instruction)
  • Printer, plotter, extended memory etc. as options

The price for the basic equipment amounted to 1968 $4,900 or DM 19,600, - and thus approx. the double of an average gross annual salary of the time at that time. Based on the today's annual average income (29,569, 00 EUR) that corresponds to a price of approx. "€ 59,000, -.

It is remarkable that this achievement without the use of integrated circuits was furnished. There are devices, which work still after nearly 40 years as on the first day.
