IEEE 802.1x is a standard to the Authentifizierung in computer networks.

The standard IEEE 802.1x makes a general method for the Authentifizierung and authorizing available in IEEE 802-Netzen. At the network entrance, a physical haven in the LAN, a logical IEEE 802.1q VLAN or a WLAN, the Authentifizierung takes place via the Authenticator, which examines if necessary the Authentifizierungsinformationen conveyed by the Supplicant by means of a Authentifizierungsservers (radius server) and the access to the services offered by the Authenticator (LAN, VLAN or WLAN) permits or rejects.

The standard recommends the Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) or the PPP EAp TLS Authentication Protocol to the Authentifizierung, since no own authentication minutes are defined.

With other operating systems a Third party software should be installed, in order to be able to use the function. The moreover one it is possible to use network components which permit a Web-based Authentifizierung.
