The Internet Low bit rate codec, or iLBC, is royalty-free language codec, which is used mainly with VoIP. The codec is appropriate for narrow band speech transmission and works with 30-ms or 20-ms-Datenframes. The bit rate amounts to 13.3 kbit/s at 30-ms-Frames (400 bits per block) or 15.2 kbit/s with 20-ms-Frames (304 bits per block). The iLBC codec makes relatively good language quality possible with lost gone Datenframes, what can be caused by lost or retarded IP packages. Skype uses a variation of iLBC.
iLBC is specified in RFC 3951.
The iLBC signal is processed by a scanning rate by 8 kHz/16 bits and uses an block-independent linear Predictive Coding (LPC) - algorithm with controlled reaction to package loss similarly the pulse-code modulation (PCM) with pack Loss Concealment, as for example ITU-T G.711 (which with a firm bit rate of 64 kbit/s works).
