ISPF (Interactive system Productivity Facility) is a user interface for 3270-basierte TSO terminal in the IBM large computer range under the operating system z/OS and its predecessors (OS/390, MVS).

ISPF consists software of a dialogue manager, the Program development Facility (pdf), as well as the Configuration and LIBRARY management (SCLM).

The dialogue manager makes it possible to develop own interactive 3270-Anwendungen. The APIs can be used both in programming languages and assembler, COBOL, PL/I, C and in Scriptsprachen (CLIST, REXX).

The Program development Facility contains utilities for the computer centre enterprise as well as aids to the program development. The central function is the comfortable editor.

SCLM is a tool to the Versionierung of application programs.

The text editor integrated in the ISPF makes it, HP and PO-Datasets with record format for F possible, FB, to work on V and VB. The editor is served by means of control instructions, line commands and function keys. Furthermore it is possible to write own macros. These must stand at the run time in the SYSEXEC or SYSPROC LIBRARY. Auxiliary products make possible also an editing of VSAM for DATA sets.

Part the ISPF is a workstation Client, which runs under Microsoft Windows 95 /98/NT/2000, AIX, HP-UX, OS/2 and Solaris. Hereby one can work on host files alternatively with a workstation editor or work on turned around ASCII files in the file system of the workstation with the ISPF editor. In addition it is possible to implement by means of the ISPF command WG arbitrary programs or Skripte on the workstation.

The predecessor of the ISPF, SPF (Structured Programming Facility) was developed in the seventies and could succeed against numerously existing competition products, of which the RPF is only with users of the emulator Hercules still of importance.

There was from different manufacturers of attempts to portieren the ISPF editor on other platforms. A version existed for MS-DOS, which could work on progressively files, which were larger than the existing memory. CTC drives SPF/SE out for Windows during Uneclipse with SPF/UX a version for Unix offers.
