With the englischstammigen term Internetworking is with one another (Internet) and communication meant the connection of spatially separate networks over these nets (working) with one another. (Interpretation attempt)

Problem definition

  • How between different LAN and WAN technologies one
  • How does a package in the complex network find its
  • How does the package mediator (rout) come to its
  • How are overload situations
  • How does one deal with transfer

Solution: Internetworking

Principle

Internet consists of numerous different technologies, which are united homogeneous to one (homogeneously) working network.

AT, Ethernet, ISDN

The standardization is converted by uniform minutes. This minutes arrange themselves in the TCP/IP layer model in the Internet layer (also switching layer or English Internet/network Layer), above the technology-bound layers.

Minutes of the Internet layer

  • IP (Internet minutes)
  • ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol)
  • ARP (Address Resolution Protocol)
  • RARP (Reverse Address Resolution Protocol)
  • OSPF (open Shortest Path roofridge)
  • BGP (Border Gateway Protocol)

Internet minutes

The illusion of a only one uniform communication system is produced by the Internet minutes often commodity. This (e.g. TCP/IP minutes family) all host and interfaces (intermediate, switching systems) in the network must have.

  • IPv4
  • IPv6

Intermediate of switching systems

What holds that together

  • Repeater
  • Bridges (Switches)
  • Rout
  • Gateway
