IPFilter, also ipf mentioned, is a package filter, a software, which can be used as Firewall or also as NAT for translating of Internet addresses.

IPFilter is a very portable package filter. It runs among other things on the operating systems FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Linux, SunOS, Solaris, HP-UX, Tru64. IRIX, QNX and Mac OS X.

IPFilter was written by Darren Reed since beginning of the 1990er; Version 1.0 was published on 22 April 1993. IPFilter is developed further actively as open SOURCE of Reed; the 4,1 series, which was published on 12 February 2004, is current.
