To merge IrLAN minutes (Infrared local AREA network) bieted the possibility equipment over infrared interfaces in a LAN. IrLAN minutes define a full-duplex interface between the Client and a server. A IrLAN Client develops the connection to a IrLAN server. Over this connection (data channel) then LAN packages can be sent and received. In the IrLAN Peer ton Peer mode each station possesses both a Client and a Provider. Since both could open the connections now, by means of minutes is decided, which develops the connection.

The Client develops the connection, by picking information out in the IAS of the server and thus the IrLMP LSAP (Logical service ACCESS POINT) specifies. The Client develops thereby a control channel, over which the channel characteristics of the data channel are then negotiated. Afterwards the data channel is opened and configures. Configurations are set by the control channel. The data channel is used only for the transmission of packages in the format of the LANs. The IrLAN connection is broken off either by the user or connection TimeOut.
