An IRC network is an final Chat network in the Internet Relay Chat. A network consists of several IRC servers, to which a multiplicity of individual Chatter is connected in each case, and/or whose IRC Clients. In the largest IRC networks are 100,000 - 200,000 Chatter at the same time. This becomes possible technically only due to the allocation on several servers, which clarifies the meaning of the IRC network.

At present almost 1000 IRC networks are well-known, which are all together from each other independent and different in each case operators, rules, Channel and users have. If one participates in the IRC, a crucial question therefore is in which/one is which IRC net (EN) and not only, in which Channels or with which Usern.

Technology

From technical view the IRC network is a union of several IRC servers. The interconnected IRC servers exchange constantly information about the existing user, Channel and contents of the led Chats. In this way large groups can develop, at which it is all the same, to which the individual servers the user the connection take up, in order to participate in the IRC, since contents are everywhere the same.
