Kaufmod (or Kaufmodding) one calls commercially refugees computer or computer components, whose appearance or structure deviates from commercial work place computers.

(Case) Modding means primarily that the original state of any article (in this case of a computer housing) was individually changed from its original appearance. Therefore that is not so-called Kaufmodding Modding in the actual sense, since by the owner no own modifications are made. Besides Kaufmods - there they are industrially manufactured - are usually no Unikate, which thus the basic idea of the Moddings, to which work of a personal unique piece does not correspond, any longer.

Kaufmodding computers differ from commercial devices by the optical revaluation by LED-lit up exhausts and power packs, rounded IDE cables, inserted sights etc. however apply not only completely "“gemoddete"” computers as Kaufmod, but also intended components, in which certain concepts and solutions of the Casemodding are transferred and converted industrially, as for example water cooling, exhaust price increases or LCDs ready for installation for indicating various information. The appearance leans against that one from individually modified computers (Casemodding) and does not speak thus the appropriate clientele on mostly Casemodding "“fans"”, that want to take over certain solutions (both purely optically as well as functionally) for their own computer, these however for different reasons (e.g. high temporal expenditure, erfoderliches fate relating to crafts and technical) to tinker wants or be able as "“genuine"” Casemodder. In the long run the spreading of Kaufmods - based on the spreading of the computer - is very small, which suggests a certain individuality with the acquisition (comparably with the Tuning of cars).

The term Kaufmod (sometimes also Fertigmod) is name for industrially manufactured Modding accessories (the manufacturers in such a way mostly call and the trade Kaufmod articles), devaluing easily an invention of the Casemodder as, since it is not in the literal sense Modding (s.o.). Although the Kaufmodding does not overlap with the Casemodding actually or with it competed (finally Kaufmods are "“only"” fan articles for the Casemodding fans), gives it nevertheless a certain dislike opposite the Kaufmods in the Casemodder community (already the designation implies "“Kaufmod"” even), because on the one hand in Kaufmods almost exclusively ideas of the Casemodder is commercially converted, which were considered once as individual personal solutions. On the other hand by the broad entrance of the PC users to the Kaufmods, connected with the constant association with the Casemodding (on the part of the manufacturers) the picture of the Casemodders is distorted as a "“farmer"” in the public to the "“Kaufmodder"”.

There is however no clearly defined border between Kaufmodding and Casemodding, above all which concerns certain components (e.g. lit transparent plexiglass exhausts), lays out each Casemodder individually. With the time former Kaufmods can be established also as standards for Casemodder. Like that nowadays most housing manufacturers are very Design conscious and supply the raw material for many Casemodder, where however a such housing would be as Kaufmod still some years ago. Likewise the first PC water cooling were considered as Kaufmods, nowadays hardly build a Casemodder more a water cooling. Kaufmods, which develop in the long run from the ideas of the Casemodder, cause thus also a change of the Casemoddings, since a Casemodder is anxious after something new always.
