The left aggregation control Protocol (LACP) is network minutes after IEEE 802.3ad for the dynamic bundling of physical network connections.

By LACP redundant physical connections between two Switches can be combined into a logical connection. Thereby a distribution of load is reached on all at the logical connection physical connections taken part, as well as in addition increased the reliability of the connection.

The LACP represents the official IEEE standard for the left aggregation technology. Left aggregation marks the dynamic bundling of several physical connections between two network components to a logical connection. Beside LACP still solutions exist the PAgP of Cisco for dynamic bundling, for example. Further exist still innumerable static left aggregation procedures, which are more or less all and cannot thus manufacturer-spreading be used.

In former times instead of the term left aggregation also the term Trunking was used.
