With the LOCK Keeper it acts around a patent-protected conversion of the air Gap of concept for the physical and logical separation from computer network segments. Differently than a Firewall by the system a network separation on physical level (OSI layer 1) is forced. Similarly to an air-lock system conceived it connects itself alternating with ever one of the nets which can be connected, in order to take up and/or make files available or enamels. So that arbitrary data cannot be transferred, are implemented different transportation, writing and read restrictions. Thus the data are examined e.g. by a virus scanner and to if necessary further filterings and examinations submitted for example transmission direction, transmitter authenticity by digital signature examination, receiver authenticity by coding, file types or mechanism implemented which can be reconstructed simply in hardware permit a controlled Datentransfer between two network segments, guarantee however at the same time that there is never a direct on-line connection between these network segments. Usually the system is used not in place of, but in combination with Firewalls.

History

The LOCK Keeper was developed and patented in Trier at Institut for telematics. Meanwhile the system is manufactured by Siemens in Switzerland. The selling in Germany takes place at present via the Actisis GmbH in Trier.
