As MAC filter an entrance protection for LANs is understood, which only devices with certain MAC address permits entrance to the network. Typically the MAC filter put down in form of a table into rout (Firewall).

However the MAC address is not a constant characteristic of the respective network knot, with which most network maps can do it are selected and also changed. Thus if the address of a participating knot is well-known, an aggressor can falsify the address of its computer suitably and obtain by devious means entrance in such a way.
