was called the first completely computer on the European mainland, working with transistors.
It starting from 1955 to DO Vienna von Heinz Zemanek (* 1920) built. The designer alludes thereby in a quotation to (roaring) the computers taken in the USA in enterprise: "If it also the rapid computing speed of American models cannot reach, "the eddy wind `or "Taifun `mean, then it becomes for a Viennese `is nevertheless enough. "As more correct, also at the computer appropriate name according to Zemanek applies: Binary decimal full transistor - computer.
The computer consists of 3.000 transistors, 5,000 diodes, 1,000 assembly panels, 100,000 soldered connections, 15,000 resistances, 5,000 condensers and 20,000 m jumper wire. With width of 4 meters, a height of 2.5 meters and a depth of 50 centimeters the plant was small opposite the tube computers at that time.
Zemanek said it later about its famous project, a half illegal venture of a small university assistant was, which he realized without official permission and thus also without financial support of the university with a group of students. It traveled 1954 to Philips to Holland, in order to call there because of a gift in kind. The quantity of 1.000 transistors and their targeted application was, only seven years after invention of the transistor to mediate with difficulty. Zemanek received 1,000 however nevertheless, although rather slower, hearing aid transistors (see Telepolis interview - Related links).
