Manufacturer
With the Notebook market it gives remarkably many marks, in addition however remarkably to little manufacturer. This is because of the fact that considerable companies (e.g. Fujitsu Siemens of computer) in the case of order manufacturers (original Design Manufacturer (ODM)) the Notebooks buys or perhaps easily modified "personally "to produce leaves, in order to then sell it under own name. How large the own portion of the equipment Designs is, can be measured usually only with difficulty. However no longer there the Notebook manufacturers have their seat in Taiwan, to a large extent become, but produces in China.
"Genuine ones "Notebook manufacturers are among other things (in the order of their production numbers, if known - the numbers are to be enjoyed with caution and are suitable only to measure around the order of magnitude):
- Quanta (for practically all Notebook offerers, at present the world largest producer with something over 11 million devices in the year 2004)
- Compal (for IBM, Dell and Hewlett-Packard (earlier Compaq), 7.7 million devices in the year 2004)
- Inventec (3.3 million in the year 2004)
- Wistron (in former times Acer, in the meantime independently, 3 million in the year 2004)
- ASUS (to production under own mark, as order manufacturers for among other things at Sony and Apple sell about 50 % active, in addition, ODM devices in the offer, altogether nearly 3 million in the year 2004)
- Arima (1.8 million in the year 2004)
- Mitac (1.4 million in the year 2004, also semi ruggedized in the offer)
- University-wants (1.2 million in the year 2004)
- FIC (in some regions also as self-mark actively, 700,000 in the year 2004)
- Clevo (finished the Alienware and Voodoo Gamer laptop, also for Gericom, 550,000 in the year 2004)
- Elitegroup/ECS (in former times also as self-mark represent, but since in the middle of 2005 only ODM)
- Twinhead (represented in Germany also as self-mark)
- MSI (before represented for IBM actively, in the meantime as own mark)
- LG Electronics (to at the end of of 2004 for IBM in South Korea under label name the LG@IBM actively. And developed beside IBM for Compaq, HP and other qualitatively high-quality manufacturers Notebooks manufactured. Since 3 years with own mark and own production at the market)
Many considerable Notebook offerers give laptops from mainly own Design in order (sequence after sales figures in the year 2004 with this producers, likewise not completely accurately):
- Dell (2004: 7,9 million)
- Hewlett-Packard (2004: 7,4 million)
- Toshiba ("inventor" of the laptop PC, produce roughly about half of the Notebooks themselves, the remainder goes to above producers, 2004:5,8 millions)
- Lenovo (formerly IBM, 2004:4,3 millions)
- Acer (distinction between self-Design and ODM particularly with difficulty, some models such as TravelMate 800 are available also as OEM versions with the producers; 2004:3,9 millions laptops)
- Fujitsu Siemens of computer (the LifeBooks own Designs and are probably come of manufactured. The Amilo series are completely in addition-bought. 2004:3,1 millions)
- NEC (in Germany as luggage pool of broadcasting corporations Bell represent, 2004:2,1 millions)
- Sony (2004: 1,8 million)
- Apple (2004: 1,7 million)
- BenQ (formerly Acer, in the meantime independently; some devices come of own Designs, others are in addition-bought e.g. from Mitac, to 2004:100.000)
Only very few Notebook offerers manufacture mainly even:
- Panasonic (allegedly everything produced)
- Samsung (until recently a part of production expenditure-lain at AsusTek; in addition, as a ODM producer for Dell (Latitude Subnotebooks) actively)
- LG Electronics (allegedly all LG Notebooks are produced and developed)
The first mentioned producers offer also own Notebook Designs, do not sell them however not (or only in some countries in the asiatic area). They are then active as original Design Manufacturer (ODM). In Germany the among other things following offerers sell these laptops as self-mark (sorts alphabetically):
- Averatec
- Bacoc
- Bullman
- ERGO Notebooks
- faet
- Fujitsu Siemens of computer (Amilo/Lifebook)
- Gericom
- Gigabyte
- Issam
- Max DATA
- Medion
- Nexoc
- Tronic5
- Word man
- Xeron
- Yakumo
The connections of the producers, considerable manufacturer and self-mark offerers constantly change. Thus producers try such as AsusTek, MSI or Twinhead strengthened to appear as self-mark while Elitegroup withdraws itself of it. Possibly also Lenovo will introduce ODM series after the purchase of the PC and Notebook section of IBM.
Also is not clear always, where the actual final assembly takes place. Many OEM/ODM Designs already get with production in Asia its complete regional equipment (keyboard, manuals etc.). Others are delivered than Barebones (without memory, CCU, non removable disk, sometimes also without ODD or without display) and then in regional factories (for example Fujitsu Siemens equipped in Augsburg for the Lifebooks, Toshiba in Regensburg, Dell in (Ireland) partly after customer's requests finished.
