OD of Robert was the founder and President of the company Micro instrumentation and Telemetry of system (MITS), which in the center of the 70's of one of the first personal computers for private individuals, who old air 8800, on which brought US-American market.

Career/development

Its training as Elektroingeneur made Robert as a member of the United States air Force to the Oklahoma State University.1968 Robert into the research labs of the Kirtland air Force cousin in new Mexico was shifted, where it became acquainted with its later partner Forrest Mims III. Together with its study friend Stan Cagle and the officer Bob Zaller created the four the company MITS, which built telemetry of systems for hobby electronics engineers at the beginning. In the autumn 1970 the ways of the partners separated from MITS over the question, into which direction the further development of the company should go. Robert wanted to begin with the production of desk calculators, while Cagle and Mims wanted to build an infrared alarm system. Cagle and Mims bought the portions of the company from Robert and became generally accepted with his conceptions.

Robert and the old air

After Robert's its first desk calculator had brought on the market, it wrote 1971 in the expenditure for November of the hobby electronics engineers magazine Popular Electronics over its MITS of 816 desk calculators kit and after the publication the business with the computer began immediately to run very well. Starting from 1974 a Robert's forced new product was to be brought on the market, since the prices for desk calculators were so strongly fallen that its kit could not keep up with the already finished assembled desk calculators of the competition any longer. From this situation developed the first kit for a personal computer, who old air 8800, over which Popular Electronics in January edition published a Robert's also article in the magazine 1975. The Harvard at that time University student Bill Gates as well as its friend Paul Allen and the two read this article took up contact with Robert and struck it before BASIC an interpreter for the old air to write. Robert it accepted the suggestion and angagierte the two why Harvard left gates. After gates and all some time for MITS had worked, they left the enterprise and create the company Microsoft. From the article also the Homebrew computer club from a group of old air 8800 fans resulted. Later 23 computer companies created, among other things also the company Apple from the members of this club.

1977 were bought to MITS by the Pertec computer corporation. Robert bought from its portion a Ranch in Georgia made medicine training. He is today a practicing physician in the US-Bungesstaat Georgia.
