OPIE (abbreviation for open Palmtop Integrated Environment) is based a free graphic user environment for PDAs on the GNU/Linux operating system. It uses wide-spread standards such as XML, Obex and IrDA. Since 4 August 2003 the version 1.0 available for Sharp Zaurus, Siemens SimPad and HP is iPAQ in several languages. With Themes and Styles the surface can to the personal taste adapts to become.

  • Internet: IRC Client and the Webbrowser Konqueror
  • Multimedia: opieplayer2 can indicate pictures and controls the Streaming of audio and video data and is based on xine
  • Network: Data alignment with Kolab, Outlook and the Qtopia Desktop

  • The personnel information manager (PIM) covers directory, task list, note book, E-Mail, date planner, text editor and search. It is also possible over Bluetooth to communicate to IrDA or network with Palm OS PDAs or pocket PC.

OPIE supports much hardware and offers binary compatibility with Zaurus applications. For the access to the operating system gives it a Linux Shell and extended safety functions by Linux Security services.

Originally OPIE is based on Qtopia of the company Trolltech however in some places was developed further. (Fork)
