By Partitioned DATA set one understands a data organization about files on IBM large computer systems.
Partition a DATA set contains a listing, in which the names of all Members, which are stored within partition DATA set, are specified.
For putting on the Partitioned DATA set the maximum size of this listing must be indicated. Since the place, which was needed by deleted Members, is released not automatically, a compression run (Compress) must take place in certain time intervals, by which this is released.
By the introduction of the STORAGE management of system (SMS) exists a more modern administrative form, which is called PDSE. This administrative form has the advantage that no more compression run is needed, in order to release to the storage location needed by deleted Members.
Existing Partioned DATA set can be transferred by a special job into this new administrative form.
