The Polycomputer 880 was an educational computer on basis of the microprocessor U880, far common in the former GDR. The computer was produced starting from 1983 by the VEB Polytechnik Karl Marx city.
The equipment was supplied inserted ready for operation in a diplomat suit-case. Altogether the equipment had a weight of 5 kg. To the data input it had a Hex keyboard as well as some function keys.
The expenditure was made by a 8-digit filter segment display. One could read off the condition of all lines of the data and address bus over light emitting diodes.
The operating system of the Polycomputers was on 4 KByte a large ROM, the data storage was 1 KByte RAM intended. Due to the incomplete address decoding an armament was not possible on full 64 KByte memory.
For external data storage a cartridge tape recorder could be attached over a DIN socket. To the printout could over a loudspeaker plug a teleprinter angeschossen to become. A driver for the loop stream of the teleprinter was already inserted.
The data buses were attainable over a plug connector. Thus could be realized numerous tinkering objects for accessories. A Steckfassung for further ROM or EPROM was present internally.
From price reasons was used as CCU a superseded variant of the U880 with only 1 MHz clock frequency.
To it the a plate computer LC80 was parallel on the market.
