By Shared STORAGE is to be understood in computer science a together used permanent memory, which together and perhaps at the same time by several computers over a network or an other connection (competing) can be accessed. The permanent memory consists typically of so-called disk an array.
Classical uses of Shared STORAGE are asset/passive cluster or also Failover cluster. All systems in this cluster access the same memory. In case of a Failover thus a baking UP system can replace the failed system immediately, since both access physically the same volume of data. Simultaneous accesses is impossible in an asset/a passive cluster, since always exactly one system is active, while the remaining wait for a Failover.
Differently it behaves with an asset/an active cluster: Perhaps in this two or more computer are at the same time active and access competing the data of the Shared STORAGE. A typical example of asset/active cluster is material Oracle Application cluster.
In order to make Shared possible STORAGE, so easily a local non removable disk of a computer cannot be used. Are used instead:
