The super FX-chip was developed by Argonaut software for the super Nintendo Entertainment system, in order to increase as auxiliary chip in some play modules the efficiency of the play console.

The chip was specialized to support the super NES with the computation and representation of schattierten and texturierten 3D Polygonen.

The super FX-chip is a RISC similar Mathe processor with 10.5 MHz, which supports the super NES CCU (with only 3,58 MHz) with the 3D computations.

The super FX-chip found its use in the plays StarWing (in the USA as StarFox well-known) and Vortex.

Nintendo developed Stunt Race FX for the super FX-chip.

The modules with the super FX-chip had additional contacts, which the use of the modules in some NTSC prevented to PAL converters or copying stations beside the normal contact pins.

Super FX2-Chip

The successor of the super FX-chip consisted chips counting of 2 parallel, to 10.5 MHz each.

Plays, in which that was used super FX2 is:

  • Transformers (never appeared in the trade) of Argonaut software
  • FX Fighter (never appeared in the trade) of Nintendo
  • Power Slide of elite
  • Dirt Racer SFX von Elite.
  • Dirt Trax FX von Electro Brain
  • Doom
  • Comanche (never in the trade appeared). Conversion of the helicopter simulation of the same name of the PC von Nintendo
  • Winter gold
  • Super Mario World 2 by Nintendo
  • Star Fox 2 (never appeared). Continuation of StarWing. Here the player no more was to fixed flight paths limited, and had 6 Wingmen instead of only 3. In addition there was a Split screen mode for two players. By Nintendo
  • Street Fighter alpha 2. One nearly 1:1 arcade conversion of Capcom
