Windows mobile is combined based with a composition of applications for mobile devices, a compact operating system on Microsoft Win32 API. Devices, which Windows uses mobile, are for example pocket PC, Smartphones, and portable Media centers. It is in such a way arranged that a similarity with the Desktopversionen of Windows is recognizable.

Common characteristics of Windows mobile

Windows mobile for pocket PC contains in most versions:

• Today - side, which represents the today's date, owner formations, coming meetings, E-Mail message, and tasks. It contains also a border for notifications, which gives information to the user by Icons over different things, as for instance the battery running time. Programs can represent further entries on the today - side. The background picture can be adapted.
• The task border shows the momentary time, the volume, and the connecting status. If a program or a dialogue is opened, a "“OK ONE"” or "“latches"” - a button appears beside the clock. The important extra that task bar is the activate button, which has a similar task as in the Desktopversion of Windows. In the starting menu there is a list of applications, nine changeable entries at the beginning and resuming entries to the programs, used last, attitudes, the assistance and the search.
• Pocket PC versions of Microsoft Office are in Windows contained mobile. This consists of pocket Word and pocket Excel.
