z/OS is the current name of an operating system for IBM large computers, whose roots go back into the 60's. First it was called OS/360 and over MVS and OS/390 in z/OS was only later renamed. Although z/OS one has over forty-year old history behind itself, it takes also today still another technological leading position.

It is considered as at present most reliable and most stable server operating system at the market. A reason for very high stability is that it consists to a very large part of error Recovery routines. In parallel the Sysplex group, close a coupled cluster from IBM large computers reaches z/OS an availability of 99,999%, which corresponds to a Downtime of five minutes per year. Hereby is available under z/OS the best high availability solution, which is available at present.

The operating system runs on up to 640 64-Bit-IBM-Prozessoren. It supports IPv6, Java and can owing to the Unix system services (USS) directly Unixsoftware support. Extensive cryptography functionality with support for standards such as TLS, SET, VPNs, and hardware isolation do not only permit the production of safe application systems.

Renaming the S/390-Serie and thus the operating system into zSeries and/or z/OS is part of a marketing campaign of IBM, which anpreist high stability. The "“z"” is not to stand here for "“zero down time"”, thus "“down-times"”. Therefore z/OS in combination with zSeries hardware among other things in the bank and insurance surrounding field still appreciation actually experiences. to be completed z/OS designed for it a great many inputs and expenditures to be mastered and a large quantity of transactions is.
